The Recreation Department was established to promote physical activity, recreation, and community within the town. Events often take place at either the Cavendish Town Elementary School or Greven Field.
The department oversees several youth recreational sports, including soccer, baseball, and softball. It also helps run and promote a few local road races throughout the year.
If the weather cooperates, the department builds and maintains an ice rink at Greven Field, the site of the town's two ball fields, during the winter months. Greven Field is also the home field of the Green Mountain Union School softball team.
The park is also home to a half-mile multi-use path through the woods running alongside the Black River and around the baseball field.
The department works to facilitate fun through recreation by often posting calls for pick-up games (baseball, volleyball, hockey) at Greven Field throughout the year.
In August, the department runs a summer camp for local kids; details regarding this camp typically are announced towards the end of the school year.
